To Enter.. See Below..There really are not that many rules....just heading off most questions :)

1. Eligibility. Anyone is eligible to enter, anywhere in the world. The only requirement is that you be a real person or a reasonable facsimile.

2. Entry into the competition is simple. Email your images to
offthecuff@theseengallery.com. Include your Name, address, phone number. Title of photos.. if you have one. Indicate Category if other than General (see #3 below). Indicate format (jpg, gif, tiff) and size of original image. The image can be resized for emailing, but please be sure to save your original file first. Please.. No more than 9 mb per email and always send additional photos from the same email address. Upon receipt of your photo, you will be invoiced 5 USD via Paypal (see #7 below). You will be able to pay securely via Paypal or with your credit card. Since this is the last 2 weeks of the competition you may upload up to 5 photos/week. First weeks entries must be received prior to midnight Sept 1. Second week entries must be received prior to midnight, September 8, 2011.

3. Categories. All photos will be automatically entered in a 'general category'. You may also enter your photo in several additional categories: Humorous, Landscape (Natural), Urbanscape, Figurative, Abstract, or Nature. There will be at least one photograph chosen out of each of these categories for exhibition. Please Note: Voting for best images in these categories will take place in Mid-September. Even if a photo did not move on to the final voting rounds in initial voting, they will be included for a second vote in each of these categories to be shown. So... it is in your best interest to denote a category to your photo. If one is not given, the gallery has the liberty of assigning a category to the photo.

4. Technical Requirements.

a. Photos must be taken with a cell phone camera.

b.. Photos must be at a resolution of at least 600 X 840, preferably at the maximum capability of your phone. Photos chosen will be displayed at a special show "On the Fly, Off the Cuff" opening October 22, 2011. Entrants will be responsible for having their photos printed and framed for presentation. Archival materials must be used for all presentation material, including paper, matting, and backing board. If you wish, the gallery can print and frame your photos at competitive prices. Minimum requirements are 4-ply white mats and black metal or wood frames. Other treatments can be used including 'floating' the image, mounting on various materials, etc. The gallery should be contacted prior to using alternative display materials. If you have any questions regarding such things as resizing your images or appropriate framing materials, please email us at art@theseengallery.com and ask. If necessary, the gallery will do test prints on images sent to make sure they would be satisfactory. There are also ways to resize to minimize the effects of enlarging.

c. Prints must be a minimum of 5 X 7". - See table below for recommended resolutions for each size print. 11 X 14" or larger prints are preferred for display. Bigger is better. However, print quality should not be sacrificed for size. Usually 300 ppi is considered optimal, but many photos can be printed at resolutions at less than that. For instance at 300 ppi an 8 X 10 print would have an image size of 2400 X 3000 (or 7.2 megapixel). Even thought 300 ppi is generally preferred, the guidelines below are the least acceptable sizes that should be considered and are printed at 120 ppi. If we do not think your photo can be properly presented at this printer setting, we will advise you and refund any fees.

The table below is a good guide as to sizes that can be printed using various settings on cameras. If you have any questions at all about the size that you can print your image, please email bill@theseengallery.com. Be sure to always keep the original photo as shot before doing any manipulations, including resizing. Some images can be 'sized up' and the resolution maintained within reasonable ranges but there are many factors to consider before this is done.

d. Manipulation of the image..either in camera or using photo editing software is allowed .

5.. Sales. The retail prices will be agreed on between the gallery and the photographer; efforts will be made to keep the prices consistent within the same sized prints and framing treatment. After the actual cost of the framing is reimbursed to the photographer, the gallery and artist will split the sales price 50/50. Also, all entered photos may be printed by the photographer and offered for sale as unframed prints during the run of the show. Prints offered for sale should, at the minimum, be printed on archival paper and packaged. Please let us know prior to October 15 if you plan to do this so we can make suggestions as to presentation.. The gallery will recieve their usual commission of 50% on these prints.

6. Return of Photos. If the photograph does not sell and the photographer is within 50 miles of downtown Decatur, they will be asked to pick up their framed work if they wish within 30 days after the show ends. If they are outside the 50 mile limit and wish their framed work returned, it will be shipped at their expense. In either case, the unframed print will be returned via the postal service at no cost.

7. Fees. We are asking for an "entry fee" of 5 USD per photographer for up to a maximum of 10 entries. Each 10 entries over this will be subject to an additional 5 USD fee. All fees will go towards awards for "Best of Show - Jurors Award" and "Best of Show - People's Choice award" and towards return of prints. Jurors will be announced at a later date. Amount of awards will depend on the number of entries.

8. Judging. Each week, all of the entries will be uploaded to The Seen Gallery's facebook page.  http://www.facebook.com/The.Seen.Gallery  People will vote on the photos they like best by clicking on "like" for each photo. . Beginning on September 18, 2011, all winning photos from the previous weeks voting will be uploaded to The Seen Gallery's facebook page for final voting and selection of 'People's Choice" awards. In addition, there will be a special voting during the last week of June, 2011 for inclusion in the ACP festival guide listing for the show. No names will be attached to the images while being voted on in order to minimize the possibility of popularity contests. The gallery reserves the right to curate in photos they find to be of merit.

All entered Photos will be exhited by projection during the opening

Think Red

We NEED your help!!!  We are having a separate Show for photos incorporating the color RED in the photo.. Think RED.. also opening October 22. Why are we doing this? Well..there is an organization called 50 Cents Period What do they do? Its pretty simple ... for girls in developing countries who miss a week of school each month during menstruation, 50 cents buys a month of sanitary supplies and an uninterrupted education. 50 Cents Period

So.. we have set up a separate email address to send entries for these photos. There are two categories.. cell phone photos and traditional photography (any camera..any format).   There is no charge. AND.. The Gallery will have the top 5 Photos printed in each of the two categories and will raffle them off in a special fund raiser for 50 cents period.  You will have to wait to see the raffle concept we have decided on.. we promise that you will get a print when entering the raffle.  Extras of these prints will be made for the photographer to use in showing their art in the gallery. The top 3 winners in each category will have the opportunity to present their framed and hung work during the opening and run of "THINK RED". All entered photos may be printed by the photographer and offered for sale as unframed prints during the run of the show (The gallery will donate their usual commission on these prints to 50 Cents Period.. The artist can choose to retain their income on these sales or donate it to 50 cents period.. your choice will remain confidential)Send your entries to red@thruourlens.com . All entered photos will be shown opening night by projection on the front of The Seen Gallery.  Photos will be uploaded to our facebook page for voting beginning Sept 1.
